Here is part 2 of the chalkboard modeling tutorial. We will UV unwrap the model to prepare it for texturing. This process can be tedious and challenging, especially with more organic models. This model has a simple structure, so the unwrapping will be pretty straightforward.

UV Unwrapping–What Is It?

Taking the time to unwrap a model can give you more control over how the model’s materials look. When you unwrap a model, you are taking the 3-dimensional object and arranging the geometry on a 2-dimensional plane. It is like rendering our globe on a piece of paper. I learned how to do this from YouTube and a lot of trial and error. If you find it frustrating at first, don’t get discouraged. Just keep at it; it will click. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to UV unwrapping models. It really taxes my old rubbery brain.
