Learning and Creativity

My Relationship With Creativity

I remember numerous instances of my creativity or inquisitive nature being frowned upon, viewed as deviant behavior. It made me feel as if I was wrong to ask questions or delve into my imagination for answers. It is not constructive to limit someone’s possibilities just because their nature is to challenge the status quo, or have an active imagination.

I used to love art and would draw all the time, but I had no real support. Sure, I would hear “wow, that’s great” and the like, but not that it was something I should pursue as career. I was made to think that art wasn’t a future, or was it going to pay the bills. But being creative is what makes me happy, yet I still have the mindset that it isn’t what is going to make my rent or retirement.

I am slowly pushing myself out of this depressing and ridiculous mindset and am trying to achieve what I wish I had pursued all those years ago. And I want to provide what I can so that others that love to create never feel that they shouldn’t pursue their nature.

I have spent the last decade or so, learning the art of 3D modeling and animation. I have only been able to learn these skills by mining the knowledge others have shared freely on the internet. I have begun to develop my own content to teach others the skills I have gained as I continue to learn. The responses I get on my tutorial videos has encouraged me to continue learning and providing content for others’ benefit.

Easy Access to Education

I am hopeful for the future of communication technologies though I realize that not everyone has easy access to the wealth of knowledge the internet provides. Nor does everyone understand how to use the technology to their advantage. I don’t understand a lot of it myself, but I can provide what I do know freely.

I understand that not everyone has access to, or can afford a formal arts education. I know what it is like to be at a disadvantage. I don’t want anybody to feel that they can’t do something because the support, resources or the money isn’t available. That is why I decided to pursue an Instructional Design degree. I want to learn how to leverage current technologies for education. I want to understand what it takes to create successful instruction.

I want to continue to make available free learning content, provide support for people to engage their creativity and give opportunity for creators to pursue their ideas. And hopefully I am able to make an impact in someone’s life even if it is just a spark of encouragement or inspiration.
